BayCurrents is a mobile application designed to visualize high-resolution surface current maps within the San Francisco Bay area. The platform aims to support various maritime activities, including recreational fishing, sailing, and professional vessel operations. Surface current data is derived from a numerical model managed by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which incorporates measurements from the Central & Northern California Ocean Observing System (CeNCOOS) High-Frequency Radar (HFR) Network, alongside additional observations such as tide and wind data. This model generates hourly current vector fields covering recent, current, and forecasted conditions up to 48 hours ahead. The dataset is downloaded entirely by the application to enable offline functionality.
It is important to note that this application contains experimental data and is not intended for navigational use.
